and since they are the normal mode of returning edited files, I rarely bother with comments unless asked, or if I need to justify exceeding my editing norms.
Here’s a thought, though - if we feel compelled to comment on any poor translation - even if we think the PM will figure it out anyway - shouldn’t we be consistent and also point out those we think are exceptionally good?
I wonder how many of us have ever done that.

Заказчика невозможно заинтересовать в оглашении своей цены. Все заказчики заинтересованы в том, чтобы получить наивысшее качество за самую низкую цену. Это можно обеспечить только если цена сделки остается тайной, и на рынке нет более или менее твердой цены. Ведь переводчики тоже не спешат публиковать реальные цены, по которым они работают. Нельзя же всерьез считать реальной ценой, те цены, которые большинство из нас публикует в своих резюме, профилях, на сайтах и т.п. или о которых они заявляют в форумах. По которым, кстати, складывается расчетная цена, которую дают переводческие сайты типа ПРОЗ. На самом деле это можно считать расчетной средней желаемой ценой. Не более того. Также как нельзя считать реальной ценой, цены, которые дают переводческие компании в стране родного языка. Я, например, знаю как факт, что SDL Russia платит даже очень квалифицированным переводчикам максимум 4 цента за слово. Но они об этом тоже не кричат на всех перекрестках, а на всех семинарах они будут уверять, что это очень хорошая цена, а на самом деле нормальная рыночная цена для пары “английский - русский” максимум 3 цента. Так что думаю ваша идея нереализуема. Но, конечно, хотелось бы.

Jyuan -
A single grave error can make a poor translation by itself. One can’t just look at the number of errors alone, but must mentally assign each error a point value based on severity. E.g., an error of “oppositeness” (such as omitting a negation in a critical sentence) = major error; obvious typo=minor error. It’s the total “points” that matter, not the number of errors.

Thank you very much indeed for the tip.
However I am not sure, if you have checked the price for 2 weeks holiday at Hilton…
Compared with the hotel in question it would be neraly 4 times more.
And I am just a translator, so I think I stick to a 4* hotel instead of 5* :)

We went there 2 years ago and quite enjoyed it (though somebody else paid for the stay ;) so double the enjoyment). I found it quite a relaxing and peaceful place to stay. The resort itself is quite remote from the beach and from what one could call a “city centre”, but you mentioned looking for somewhere quiet.
+ rates are close to the Tivoli Marina

I have little time to occupy me eyes (so to speak), so an mp3 player + a great audiobook = the best solution. You can choose between accents and genres + enjoy yourself extremely. :D

Das hört sich wirklich vielversprechend an, scheint als würde die Investition sich lohnen.
Mich reizt der kurs sehr, vor allem wegen der guten Kunden, wie ich auf der Webseite nachlesen konnte zählen die wichtigsten TV-Sender Dtl., Europas dazu.
Noch ein Paar Fragen:
Mit welcher Software wird gearbeitet?
Haben Sie gleich im Anschluß Aufträge erhalten?

Al contrario, hay que despolitizarla de esos vìnculos reales y transnacionales, hay que quitarle el “glamour”. Hay que llevarla a los barrios más pobres de América para que vean cómo se habla, como se hacen juegos de palabras, cuántos acentos hay en América, cuántos hay en México. Pero eso sí, sin aire acondicionado, sin cámaras de por medio para que no sea como esos cantantes de rock que donan 10,000 USD pero luego de haber llamado a la prensa.
Que se postule N cantidad de personas relacionadas con la lengua: traductores, filólogos, escritores, artistas, amas de casa. Proletaricemos a la academia y quitémosle no solo la R de “rial” :), sino que se puede llevar a los lugares más lejanos y agrestes del planeta. Hagamos círculos de cine y debatamos cómo se dobló una película, si se pudo hacer mejor, si el doblaje representa las ideas del director, etc.
Podemos votar quienes hablemos español o sigamos escuchando propuestas como disyoquey, cederrón y muchas, muchas fantasías lingüísticas que están por venir.
¿Me cachai, pana? :)

Our last holiday was really good, even if the location of the Alfamar Beach Ressort hotel, where we were, was a bit suspect at the begining. The travel agency gives Albufeira as location, because it is the nearest city. However and fortunately, the hotel was not located in this troublesome city, but in Praia de Falesia, very quiet and really lovely near to the beach.
We would like to go again to Portugal, but not necessarilly to the same hotel.

All descriptions look fine, however the location might be more troublesome…
We (my wife an me) do not look for discos and night life, but need a guiet place…
Maybe someone knows this hotel or at least the location and could share this information with me.

Не могу сказать, что работаю много лет, а вес переведенного вряд ли составит тонну, однако NDA присылает почти каждое серьезное агентство - причем ПЕРЕД тем, как предоставить оригинал. Не подпишешь и не отправишь им обратно - не получишь оригинал. Может быть, это зависит от характера переводов (общая информация не является конфиденциальной). Но если стоит гриф конфиденциальности, то как же без NDA?
